How to Screen Record on MacBook With Audio Options
Screen recording on MacBook is built into macOS, so you do not need a third-party app for basic recording. The fastest method is the Screenshot toolbar.
Use the Screenshot Toolbar
Press Shift-Command-5. The toolbar includes controls for screenshots and screen recordings. Choose Record Entire Screen or Record Selected Portion, then click Record.
To stop, click the Stop Recording button in the menu bar. On supported macOS versions, you can also use Command-Control-Esc to stop a recording.
Choose Audio and Save Options
Before you click Record, open Options in the toolbar. Choose a microphone if you want to record your voice. Choose None if you want a silent screen recording.
You can also change where the video saves, add a timer and show mouse clicks. By default, recordings often save to the Desktop as MOV files.
Use QuickTime Player
Open QuickTime Player from Applications, then choose File and New Screen Recording. On newer macOS versions, QuickTime may hand the task to the Screenshot toolbar. On older systems, QuickTime shows its own recording controls.
Why Some Apps Do Not Record
Some protected video apps may block screen recording. This is normal and is usually related to content protection rules rather than a MacBook problem.
